Four Walls Made a World

Laura Cavanagh

Laura Cavanagh’s series of pastel drawings is inspired by simple interior spaces, drawing on personal memories and inspired by films and TV series from the 1950s and ‘60s. She finds joy in studying light and in using color in vibrant, unexpected ways. The omission of figures from her work allows viewers to place themselves in the space of etherealness, quietude, and calm, while capturing a sense of nostalgia. In so doing, she hopes that viewers will be able to draw on their own personal memories and experiences.

Laura Cavanagh is a 2D mixed-media and pastel artist living and working in southeast Michigan. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan in 2011 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in art and design and a minor in art history.

A public reception will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 5–7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public, with light refreshments served.
