Elegance of form meets the whimsy of imagination in this invitational sculpture exhibition at Studio 23/The Arts Center featuring ceramic artists Pamela Hart, Heather Koos, and Rebecca Watz, and metal artists Jason Graham, Roger King, and Michael Starch. Each artist offers a unique handling of materials and a distinctive vision for transforming and shaping the elements to create their artwork.
Pamela Hart creates ornate patterns and textures on the surfaces of her ceramic vessels, including imagery that evokes the symbolism of ancient storytelling through images. Becca Watz honors the pristine white smoothness of porcelain, celebrating form in her vessels and figures. Heather Koos incorporates driftwood and other natural, found materials to create her colorful mixed-media and ceramic sculptures depicting imaginative scenes of nature.
Jason Graham’s metal sculptures vary from having a heavy, industrial quality to a delicate lightness and a feeling that they could walk away at any moment. Roger King creates representational sculptures with colorful painted surfaces that create wonder and whimsy for the viewer. Michael Starch’s monochromatic metal sculptures utilize line to create pattern, texture, and form and invite exploration as they seem to morph as the viewer moves around them.
Each artist's distinctive style and approach combine to form a harmonious yet dynamic display that ignites the imagination. Visitors to the exhibition will find themselves drawn into a world where traditional materials are transformed into extraordinary expressions of art.
An opening reception will take place on Thursday, January 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Studio 23. This event is free and open to the public.
